Public Library
   Scenic vista/historic location

The Island House was built c. 1866. It was the Noble family estate and is now the library. There are excellent views of the bay and the lower harbor. Many fine old trees are on the grounds, and there is also much natural vegetation along the river. A winding carriage path came from the bridge and made its way up to the house. A carriage house was located along this path.

The steps connect the house directly with the Island House Bridge. The original bridge was wider than it is now, so a horse and carriage could cross to and from the house.

Library Garden

Renovated in 2005, the library garden and foundation plantings are dedicated as a memorial to celebrate the generosity of Mrs Mildred Reed toward needy individuals and college students in the community.

Island House Bridge GardenAt the end of the bridge is an historical marker describing the history of the Island development as well as a brief history of the building, which now houses the library. Weeping cherries in the garden give a grand show in the spring.

Great views of the river abound, both upstream and down.
