On River Street, take Abram Wadsworth Path to the right through Memorial Park.
Native Americans used to come here from Old Mission Peninsula to fish in our inland rivers and lakes. Now, a 70+-year- old willow grows horizontally out towards the river, forming a unique play area.
The Village of Elk Rapids had its beginnings in the 1840s when surveyor Abram S. Wadsworth built a cabin here [22] and became the first permanent settler of the village. In the spring of 1852 he laid out the village of Stevens, which in 1858 became Elk Rapids, the first town in Antrim County.
