Turn right on Elm Street, left on Spruce Street, and then proceed to Historical Museum at the Township Hall [1].
Built c. 1862 by Edrick Pearle, the Hughes House [25] was the Cottage Hotel, later known as Eagle House and then the Hughes House. It was a stage stop between Traverse City and Charlevoix. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church [26] was founded in 1867 as the Church of the Covenant by a pioneer priest who traveled a circuit by schooner. In 1869 we called our first rector, the Rev. Albert Lewis, and in 1871, renamed as St. Paul’s, we were admitted as a parish of the new West Michigan Diocese.
