Downtown Winter Events
Join visitors and residents alike for the 6th annual Chili Cook-off on Saturday, February 18th, noon to 3. Stroll up and down River Street and sample some amazing culinary efforts from our local businesses, then vote for your favorite. If you get chilly while eating chili, we’ll have fires lit along the route and chairs to enjoy the warmth.
On Friday, March 10th, downtown Elk Rapids will host “Wine About Winter” from 4-7 pm. Take the edge off winter and enjoy local wines and food! The fires will be lit again so join us to eat, drink and be merry and warm.

Ice Skating
Whirl and twirl a couple of hours away at the Elk Rapids Ice Rink. Located on the edge of downtown at the Elk Rapids Marina and Dam Shop, kids of all ages will surely enjoy winter just a little bit more after some time spent on the ice. Afterward warm up with great food and drinks at the Dam Shop!
Nordic Ski Trail
Did you know Elk Rapids has its very own groomed Nordic ski trail at the Elk Rapids Golf Club, in partnership with Norte? Grab a friend to take advantage of this stunning course and leave with rosy cheeks and a great workout.
Hiking
Elk Rapids is home to miles and miles of gorgeous hiking trails. Bundle up and enjoy the scenery as you hike Elk Rapids’ rolling hills, deep forests, and wide-open water vistas. Here is a link to a detailed trail map.
Downhill Skiing
The whole family can enjoy some of the best downhill skiing in the region at Shanty Creek Resorts. With options for everyone from beginners to expert skiers, Shanty Creek is known for its well-maintained runs and outstanding customer service. In addition, visitors can expect reasonable rates and a variety of terrain that guarantees winter fun for all!
